Second Sunday after Epiphany

This morning's altar flowers are donated by Lori Esteves.

Bible Study is back: We are resuming Bible studies at 7:00 pm on Saturday nights. Join us! Expect an engaging and thought-provoking evening with stories, life applications, and your ideas as well. Pastor Arden is able to translate complex biblical texts that animate and stir the listener. He brings a wide variety of life experiences that illustrate the journey of faith with which we can identify.

Martin Luther King Day: It's the 50th anniversary of the Poor People's Campaign, started by Martin Luther King. This morning from 12:30 to 2:30 pm all are invited to commemorate MLK weekend with our neighboring kouses of worship at Asbury United Methodist Church. We'll learn some strategies for building peace while standing against hate. We'll also be updated on the immigration matters in the NY area. There will be an inspiring speaker, special music, and home-made food. Let's show up in force!

Chili cook-off and Africa presentation: Join us on Sunday, January 21 at 5:30 pm for our annual chili cookoff followed by a special presentation by Pastor Arden. In this cold weather, chili warms us inside and it's fun to sample different recipes. We ask everyone to bring some home-made chili or an appropriate side dish.

After dinner, Pastor Arden, who served as a missionary with the Lutheran churches in Zambia from 2006 to 2014, will speak about his experiences there. He will also respond to questions about poverty, economic development, culture, traditional religion, governance, and prospects for the future. Come for what promises to be an extraordinary presentation. Invite a friend.

All articles for the February Newsletter are due no later than Sunday February 28. Ash Wednesday is February 14 and there is much to report on as we enter the Lenten season.

Snow has started and we may need to hire outside help for snow removal, which is not in our budget. If members can make an extra donation for snow removal, please mark your donation "Snow Removal".

The hospitality sign-up sheet is available on the link table. Please sign up to host one or two coffee hours during the January through June period.

Offering envelopes for 2018 are available on the link table.

If you have any allergies that interfere with receiving Holy Communion, especially gluten or Celiac disease, please inform the pastor. We have gluten-free wafers available.

The Flower Calendar is posted on the bulletin board in the link. Please sign up to sponsor altar flowers on the Sunday of your choice. The cost is $35. Checks should be made out to the church and designated "Altar Flowers". After the service, you may take the flowers home or contribute them to be taken to shut-ins or given to others.

Announcements must be sent to the church office by Wednesday morning for inclusion in the written "Announcements" insert of our Sunday bulletin.
