In-person worship November 1 and 7; seeking a ping pong table

October 27, 2020

Good day siblings in Christ!

What a wonderful service last week! It was great to celebrate the day with Carter and his family.

Worship this week will be in person, so feel free to join us in person or online. After a lot of consideration, next week’s service will also be in person. With such a high tension for election season, I figured some individuals may want to come together following the election to worship or just sit in the sanctuary. So both this week and next week will be in-person services.

On Election Day, if you want to be in the church to pray or be still for a moment, I will leave the office door open during the day and close it in the evening. It will be a place for stillness. This door is far away from those entering the link to vote. Please continue to pray and/or meditate daily during this time.

Our crafting group is looking for a ping pong table. We don’t need the nets or paddles, but just the table to help create beautiful quilts. If you have one, please contact Lois or the church office.

Reformation Sunday with Affirmation of Baptism

October 20, 2020

Good day siblings in Christ!

This week, our service is in person (and online too) and we have a very special event—Reformation Day AND the Affirmation of Baptism for Carter. It will be a joyous celebration.

As we are in person and this is a special occasion, I wanted to let everyone know we already have 17 confirmed attendees. Many will sit in a row together as family, but space will still be limited. Masks must be needed as usual for safety reasons.

It will be a communion Sunday, so if you would like to participate at home, please have bread and wine ready during that part of the service.

I am also asking the congregation to enter into a time of prayer for the next few weeks. Saturday will begin early voting and many are anxious during this time. It would be good to enter into a time of prayer and meditation to help provide focus and guidance as you and others vote. In addition to prayer time, I am planning to limit my social media time as it will not be pretty for the next few weeks. Please join in during this time of prayer.

Service is online only this week

October 16, 2020

Good day siblings in Christ!

This week the service will again be only online.

Next Sunday, October 25, will be an in-person service and it will focus on the confirmation of Carter Schmidt. As of October 16, I have heard that 19 people are planning to attend. If you plan to attend in person, be aware that we will have a larger group than usual. We could use a reader for the day too.

Hybrid schedule through November; Danish Home to close

October 7, 2020

Good day siblings in Christ!

This week’s note is another short one. We are continuing to follow our hybrid schedule and will have only an online service this Sunday, October 11. We are going to try this for October and November and then re-evaluate in December.

The only news I have to share comes from a group close to Our Saviour. On October 1 the Danish Home announced it will be closing by the end of this year. There are only a handful of residents left in the home after losing some to the virus, and the difficult decision was made to close the home. The current residents will be relocated to a new facility.

I have had the pleasure of conducting services there monthly prior to the virus outbreak and it was always a good group of people to be with. Walking into that entrance was breathtaking each time. Every other month a group of Our Saviour members visited the home to visit the residents. We’ve had a long history with the home and are saddened by this announcement.
