Holy Humor Sunday

Good day siblings in Christ,

Happy Easter! I hope you were able to join one of our Holy Week services. A big thank you to Joe, Larry, and John who were there to provide music for us as Phill recovers. Also, a huge thank you to Sarah who made all the copies and bulletins for the week. This was her first Holy Week with us and she was incredible!

This Sunday we celebrate Holy Humor Sunday and have a pot luck following the service. We might also be joined by our Assistant to the Bishop Pr. Nicole Schwalbe. I hope you will say hi to her and let her know how incredible Our Saviour is.

What is Humor Sunday? You probably have heard of April Fools Day. That gets its tradition from Humor Sunday. The idea is since Jesus beat Satan and rose from the dead, it is a big prank on Satan. On the Sunday after Easter, we do very small pranks during the service. Think church appropriate pranks. What they are, we cannot tell you, but expect to be a little silly on that day. Wear a funny hat or shirt or something, have crazy hair, make balloon animals, whatever. Your worship leaders will also have a bit of fun that day. Do not expect a normal service.

Now that Holy Week services are behind and as we look forward, we will return to our focus of having a little fun and getting to know one another better. We will have the return of spiritual stories. I will be looking for a volunteer for April, May, and June.

We also will begin having discussion questions at the table during coffee hour. Of course, you don’t have to participate, but the hope is we get to tell stories we might not otherwise tell to get to know one another a bit better.

There will also be an Conference-wide Ascension service on May 14 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s New Rochelle. This is part of my hope as Dean to have congregational members get to know other congregational members and worship together. We are church together and siblings in Christ.

Happy Easter! Hope to see you tomorrow!
